Surfers Paradise

December 2nd, 2009 by admin

As you may have guessed, Surfers Paradise is a shoreline city where water sports rule and beaches abound.  There is over 70km of white sandy beaches along Surfers Paradise in Queensland, Australia that are lined with basins and tidal waters making it the perfect location for a day in the sun on a surf board.

The best time to head to Surfers Paradise is between October and March when the temperatures are the warmest.  The beach area is found on the Gold Coast of Australia and is easily reached by car just in about an hour’s drive from Brisbane.  Those who do not want to hire a car can also take a train from the Brisbane Airport and arrive ten minutes away from the area by bus.  Also, from Coolangatta Airport on the South side of Surfers Paradise it is only a thirty minute bus ride into the surfing area.

Along the coast line that Surfers Paradise sits on there is also plenty to do for the times when you want to take a break from the surf for awhile.  Sitting along the Gold Coast are 21 theme parks and various attractions including Sea World, Wet n’ Wild Water park, and Dreamworld.

Also along the coastal shore is the Currumbin Sanctuary where there are hundreds of mountain parrots that you can check out.  Those who want the true Australian experience should head over to Fleays Wildlife Park where you can pet emus and kangaroos on the head as they walk right by you naturally.

Of course, when you are not at the attractions the main order of the day is surfing and other water sports such as fishing and boating.  You can also swim while staying on the island but beware that you should only swim in patrolled areas as must tourist who end up drowning are those that head outside of the red and yellow flags.

Surfers Paradise has been developed to meet tourists’ needs so you will find a wide array of restaurant options available to you as well as hotels that can meet every price range from budget to extravagant.  The nightlife is also plentiful as well as gift shops and general stores.  In terms of accommodations outside of hotels there are also camping grounds and backpacker hostels.

As of 2006 the population of Surfers Paradise reached up to 18,501 but this number rises a great deal during the summer when tourists flock to the area by the thousands.  Due to this fact the economy of the area depends heavily on tourist traffic which is why Surfers Paradise now has a very extensive sky line and some hotels that block the beach land sun.

Those who want to take in a few days of shopping can also head into the city to Cavill Mall which runs from the business district directly into the shopping district making it a one shop stop for those who want to get out of the sun and into some retail therapy.  The Cavill Mall is one of the landmarks of the Surfers Paradise skyline.

The area was voted one of the best beaches in the world by the American Travel Channel and was labelled the Cleanest Queensland beach in 2006 by the Keep Australia Beautiful Council.

Racers also enjoy visiting Surfers Paradise as it is home to the annual Champ Car World Series race and the Indy Racing League event the Nikon Indy 300.
